Mountain Dew & Cheerwine present the 4th Annual Downtown BBQ Showdown on Friday and Saturday, Oct 9 & 10, 2015. The BBQ Teams will arrive and set up on Friday and the actual event opens to the general public on Saturday from 10:30 am until 4:00 pm. at the Walthall Park in the Hattiesburg Historic Neighborhood.

The event will, once again be sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS). This is a great accomplishment since this event is the first and only KCBS sanctioned BBQ of its kind in Hattiesburg, MS and it draws BBQ Teams from all over the Southeast to participate. The Mission of the KCBS is to recognizing barbeque as America's Cuisine and to celebrate, teach, preserve and promote barbeque as a culinary technique, sport and art form.  This has all been made possible by the support of Brown Bottling Co., Cheerwine and Mountain Dew who are our title sponsors this year.


This year, the event will benefit the Edward’s Street Mission in Hattiesburg.  As part of the 250KCBS Meals Mission,  we will provide Edward's Street Mission with Boston Butt's prepared by participating teams.  In 2014, the Kansas City Barbeque Society announced its mission to feed the homeless and hungry in America with its 100KCBS Meals Mission. With the help of BBQ lovers from across the country, KCBS exceeded this goal by almost 15,000 meals. 


Ticket prices will be: $15.00 (12 and up), $5.00 (kids ages 6-12), FREE (kids 6 & under). For that you will get   All-you-can-eat BBQ provided by the Keg & Barrel, including potato salad, baked beans and coleslaw.  The Keg & Barrel will be providing a great selection of beer for purchase along with water and soft drinks.  T-Shirts for the event will be for sale along with other unique foods, crafts and art provided by selected vendors.  We can’t forget the children!  There will be a kid’s zone for them to stay occupied.  Of course you will be able to do all of this while you listen to some of the finest local musicians.


The competition will be judged on the best beef brisket, pork shoulder/butt, chicken and pork ribs. There will be a total of $10,000.00 in cash & prizes awarded. A $1500 cash prize will go to the Grand Champion, $1000.00 for Reserve Champion, and $500.00 for 3rd Overall. There will be prizes provided for the People’s Choice and 1st thru 10th place in each meat division.
